- Learn & Discover: scientific explanations, new research, and questions about what it means. Anyone can contribute an educational post.
- Questions & Help: beginner questions, scientific workflows, and Hooke support. Explain your goal, what you tried, and what happened. For an app problem, include the version, operating system, and steps to reproduce it.
- Show Your Work: images, experiments, methods, and findings. Explain how you made the result and what remains uncertain.
You do not need a polished result or an expert vocabulary. A clear question is a useful contribution.
A few shared expectations
Be kind to people and specific about ideas. Disagreement is welcome; harassment and personal attacks are not. Link primary sources where possible. Distinguish observations, interpretations, guesses, and established results. Credit creators and collaborators, and label AI assistance, simulations, and illustrations.
When you correct a substantive error, add a dated note explaining what changed and why. When suggesting a correction, quote the sentence and provide your reasoning or source.
Posts and uploads are public. Do not post patient data, private research, credentials, identifying screenshots, or material you lack permission to share. Remove sensitive metadata as well as visible details. Keep your own original files. You retain your applicable rights in your contributions, subject to the applicable host terms; posting here does not make Hooke the owner of your work.
Use the flag/report control under a post to report a problem privately to staff. For a sensitive concern—or if you are new and cannot flag yet—open the staff page and choose Message after signing in. This sends a private message to staff. Will (@will3) initially moderates the community. Reports and moderation are handled by people using Discourse’s standard review tools.
Discourse hosts this forum. Its User Terms and privacy policy also explain the host’s role. The forum’s cookies and account handling are separate from Hooke’s static website.
Privacy and removal requests
Discourse handles account sign-in and hosts posts, uploads, and service data. Will uses the forum’s administration and moderation tools to run this community and respond to reports. Public contributions can be read, copied, or indexed by others. Staff can access reports and staff messages; these are not confidential storage for sensitive records.
For a privacy or removal request, use the staff page and choose Message after signing in. Deleting a post from public view does not necessarily erase retained copies or copies others made. We do not promise permanent erasure or recovery from an ordinary delete action. Ask staff about the specific content before relying on either.
